The town is home to 30 historic buildings featuring plantation architectural styles influenced by the Waialua Sugar Co. It was designated a State Historic, Cultural and Scenic District in 1984 by the City and County of Honolulu. All new buildings must adhere to a design plan that reflects the territorial architecture of Haleiwas's earlier sugar industry period. The city of Honolulu and the State of Hawaii are planning to build a new airport in the next few years. The airport is expected to be completed in time for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, which will be the first time the city has hosted the Winter Games since 1976. The new airport will be located on the island of Oahu, which was once part of the Hawaiian island of Kaua'i. It is expected that the city will host the Winter Olympics in 2016, the first Winter Games to be held on Oahu since 1988. It will also host the 2016 Summer Olympics in the summer, which is scheduled to begin in August. The first Winter Olympics will be held in 2016 in the city of Seoul, South Korea. Taylor, managed to scramble against the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, taking off from the now-abandoned Haleiwa Airfield. These railway guns were soon dismounted and designated as Battery Kahuku. The battery was disbanded after the war, and the guns were placed in storage. The Battery was later re-designated as Battery F, and later Battery F-2, and was disbanded. The guns were later dismounted, and Battery F -2 was re-dedicated as battery F-3, and then Battery F. The batteries are still in use today, and are located on the island of Kaua'i, in the northern part of the island, near the city of Wailua-Kusamaku, and near the town of Kahuku-Wusamoku, in Hawaii. They were dismounted in the early 1990s, and were later placed on a former railway spur, which had been used as a training ground for the 16th Coastal Artillery. They are now located on a separate spur, and have been converted into a battery of the 2nd Beach Artillery, based in Wailu-Wausau, Hawaii. This is a better indicator than the average, because the median is not changed as much by a few unusually high or low values. The property tax rate of $2.82 shown here is the rate per $1,000 of home value. If for simplification for example the tax rate is $14.00 and the home value is $250,000, the property tax would be $14.00 x ($250,000/1000), or $3500. This is the 'effective' tax rate.
