Lakin is a city in and the county seat of Kearny County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,205. Lakin was founded in 1874. It was named for David Long Lakin, former treasurer of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The city has a total area of 0.98 square miles (2.54 km²), all of it land. The median income for a household in the city in 2010 was $44,688, while the per capita income was $31,086. Notable people include country singer Frank Luther (1980) and country singer Russ Jennings (1980), a member of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. The Lakin community is served by the Lakin USD 215 public school district, which has a population of 2,200. The school district has a public art gallery, which is open to the public. The community is also served by Lakin High School, where students can learn about the history of Lakin and its history. The high school has a junior high and senior high school, both of which are located in Lakin. The town has a high school with a enrollment of 1,200 students, and a junior highs and senior highs that have a student population of about 1,100. History

Lakin was founded in 1874. It was named for David Long Lakin, former treasurer of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Lakin was designated county seat in 1888. A post office has been in operation in Lakin since March 1874 and Lakin has been a city since 1875. The town is located on the U.S. Kansas Turner railway, which was built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Lakin post office was established on March 1, 1874, and the city was named in honor of Lakin's former treasurer, David Long, who was a member of the railway's board of directors. The post office is still in operation today. The city has a population of 2,000. Laken is a city in Kansas, but it is also a county seat. It has a post office that was opened on March 2, 1875, and closed on December 1, 1988. The county seat was designated in 1888, and it was named Lakin in honour of David Lakin. It is also the site of the Lakin High School, which opened in 1875 and closed in 1989. The school is located in the town's historic district, which dates back to the 18th century.
