Centereach is a hamlet and census-designated place in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 31,578 at the 2010 census. The name Centereach reflects the centrality of the hamlet's location on Long Island, literally meaning "center reached" As of 2009, the median home price was $335,000. New construction in the area has resulted in an influx of residents with a higher median income. New York State Route 25 (Middle Country Road) passes through the community and is the primary commercial thoroughfare. The community borders East Setauket, Terryville, Selden, Farmingville, Holtsville, Lake Ronkonkoma, Lake Grove and Stony Brook. The CDP has a total area of 8.7 square miles (22.6 km²), all land. In 1998, the first single-point urban interchange in New York state was opened at Middle Country Road and Nicolls Road, at the corner of Middle Country and Nicoll's roads. In 2000, there were 27,285 people, 8,176 households, and 6,998 families residing in the CDP. As of the census of 2000, the population was 75.36% White, Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.08%, 4.18% Native American, 2.17% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, and 1.42% from two or more races. History
Centereach is the primary city name, but also S Setauket, South Setauket are acceptable city names or spellings. The official name is Centereach, New York. Centereach was first called West Middle Island, but primarily became known as New Village until the early 20th century. When it was discovered that another village shared the same name, the name was changed to Centereach in 1916. The name reflects the centrality of the hamlet's location on Long Island, literally meaning "center reached". The population in 1940 was only 628, but the area had grown to nearly 20,000 residents by 1970. As of 2009, the median home price was $335,000. In 1998, the first single-point urban interchange in New York State was opened in Centereaches. The two earliest suburban developments, which began in the early 1950s, were Dawn Estates and Eastwood Village. The area has experienced a construction boom in the past decade. New construction in the area has resulted in an influx of residents with a higher median income. In the past year, there has been an increase in the number of people who live in the Centereacher area with a bachelor's degree or higher. There has been a decrease in the percentage of residents who live below the federal poverty line. There have been no deaths in the last year, but there have been a number of deaths in recent years, including a car crash in 2007. There are no children living in the community, and there are no pregnant women in the town. The town has a population of 2,000, with a median household income of $35,500.

The community has a population of 1,788. The CDP is located in the eastern part of Long Island, on the eastern edge of the town of Farmingville. It is located on the East River, which runs through the center of the community and connects to the towns of East Hampton and Farmingville on the opposite side of the river. It also borders the villages of Terryville and Holbrook on the west. The town of Holbrook is on the east side, and the village of SeldEN on the north side. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the population of Centereach is 1,838. The area has a land area of eight square miles, or 22.6 kilometers, all of which is land. It has a water supply of one inch (2.5 mm) and an estimated 1.5 inches (4.5 centimeters) of water. The village has an area of one mile (1.4 km) in length. The population of the village is 2,744 (1,856 feet) according to the 2010 Census.

The average household size was 3.27 and the average family size was3.49. The median income for a household in theCDP was $86,445, and the median family income was $92,178 as of a 2007 estimate. About 3.7% of families and 5.6% of the population were below the poverty threshold, including 4.6 of those under age 18 and 14.2% of those age 65 or over. The CDP is located on the New Jersey Turnpike, which connects to New Jersey and New Jersey via the N.J. Turnpikes. The N.C. TurnPike is one of the busiest highways in the state.
