The city of Union is the county seat of Union County, South Carolina, United States. It is the principal city of the Union Micropolitan Statistical Area (population 28,961 according to 2010 Census), which includes all of Union. The city's population grew the fastest between 1762 and the start of the Revolutionary War. The population density was 1,105.0 people per square mile (426.5/km²). History

When it was first founded, the city was known as Unionville; later the name was shortened to Union. The county's name was changed from Union to Union County in 1762 when the town was founded. The town's name changed again to Union in 1770 when it was founded again. The name Union is still used today to refer to the city of the same name, but with a different meaning, such as the town of Union, Virginia, and the county of Union County, West Virginia, respectively, in the U.S. and the city's name of Unionville, North Carolina, as well as the state of Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. The state of North Carolina is known as North Carolina; the state's name is also known as South Carolina; and the state is known for its history of being part of the United States. The U.K. was the first state to become part of Virginia; it was established in 1759. The first town to be established in the state was Union, North Caroline; it became the county in 1763.

The town has a history dating back to the 18th century, when it was first settled. It was named after the town of the same name, where it was founded in 1805.
