Winder is a city and the county seat of Barrow County, Georgia, United States. It is located east of Atlanta and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The population was 18,338 at the 2020 census. The community was named after John H. Winder, a railroad builder. The first hotel of the Jameson Inn chain opened in Winder in 1987. The city is located at 33°5947N 83°4315W (33.996495, -83.720873). It is 20 miles (32 km) west of Athens and 50 miles (80 km) northeast of downtown Atlanta. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.9 square miles (33.5 km²), of which 12.4 sq miles (32.2 km²) is land and 0.50sq miles (1.3km²), or 3.97%, is water. History

The first Doctors Day observance was March 28, 1933, in Winder. Before Winder was named Winder it was originally named Jug Tavern. The community was named after John H. Winder, a railroad builder, and not the John Winder who served as a General in the Confederate Army. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Winder in 1893. The first hotel of the Jameson Inn chain opened in winder in 1987. The resolution was introduced to the Women's Alliance of the Southern Medical Association at its 29th annual meeting held in St. Louis, Missouri, November 1922, 1935, by the Alliance president, Mrs. J. Bonar White. Since then, Doctors' Day has become an integral part of and synonymous with, the Southern medical Association Alliance. It is the only day of the year when doctors and their wives are invited to attend a formal dinner at the home of Dr. and Mrs. William T. Randolph. The annual state meeting of the Georgia State Medical Alliance was held in Augusta, Georgia, on May 10, 1934, and the resolution was adopted at the annual meeting on May 11, 1934. The day is now celebrated every year on March 28. It has been named in honor of the late Dr. William Randolph, who was a physician in the town of Winder and served in the Georgia Army National Guard during the Second World War. The town is now home to the Winder Medical Center, which was founded by Dr. Randolph and his wife.

The Battle was one of the deadliest battles in American history, with more than 1,000 people killed. The battle was the deadliest in the United States, with the loss of more than 2,000 lives, including 1,200 soldiers and 1,500 civilians. It also was the last battle of the Civil War, which ended in August 18th, 1864. The American Civil War was fought from 1864 to 1875. History

San Antonio is the primary city name, but also Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills are acceptable city names or spellings. The official name is City of San Antonio. The Payaya people lived near the San Antonio River Valley in the San Pedro Springs area. In 1691, a group of Spanish explorers and missionaries came upon the river and Payaya settlement on June 13, the feast day of St. Anthony of Padua. Father Antonio de Olivares visited the site in 1709, and he was determined to found a mission and civilian settlement there. The families who clustered around the presidio and mission were the start of Villa de Béjar, destined to become the most important town in Spanish Texas. On May 1, 1718, the governor transferred ownership of the Mission San Antonio de Valero (later famous as The Alamo) to Fray Antonio De Olivares. By June 1730, 25 families had reached Cuba, and 10 families had been sent to Veracruz before orders from Spain came to stop the re-settlement. On March 9, 1731, Juan Leal Goraz Jr. marched overland to the Presidio San Antonio of Béxar. He claimed nearly 100,000 sq miles (153,766 acres) as Spanish territory and held some control for nearly three decades; this area stretched across six present-day states. It was designated as the capital of the Spanish, later Mexican, province of Tejas. From San Antonio, the Camino Real was built to the small frontier town of Nacogdocdoches. When Antonio López de Santa Anna unilaterally abolished the Mexican Constitution of 1824 in many states of Mexico, a series of battles ensued. After a Los Angeles buyout specialist purchased Builders Square, the company's operations were moved out of San Antonian.

Arts and culture

San Antonio is a popular tourist destination. The Alamo Mission in San Antonio ("The Alamo"), located in Downtown, is Texas' top tourist attraction. SeaWorld, 16 miles (26 km) west of Downtown in the city's Westover Hills district, is the number 3 attraction and one of the largest marine life parks in the world. The city is also home to several commercial amusement parks, including Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Morgan's Wonderland, a theme park for children with special needs. San Antonio's Howard W. Government

The city of San Antonio is operated under the council-manager system of government. The city is divided into 10 council districts designed to be of equal population. All members of the San Antonio City Council, including the mayor, are elected to two-year terms and are limited to four terms. The council effectively functions as the city's legislative body with the city manager acting as its chief executive. Under Texas state law it exercises extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) over much of the surrounding unincorporated land.
