Herbster is a census-designated place (CDP) in Bayfield County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 104. It is located on the south shore of Lake Superior. The Cranberry River joins the lake in the middle of the community. The unique ecosystems of Bark Point and Bark Bay sit just to the east of Herbster. Herbster School closed its doors in 1990, but its historic log gymnasium remains open as a community center and town hall. The primary north/south route is by Lenawee Road / Forest Road 262, leading from Lake Superior to the Chequamegon National Forest. It has one restaurant at the crossroad of Lenawees Road and Highway 13. There are gift shops along Highway 13, the main route through the community, as well as the town's ZIP code, 54844. The area has an area of 5.572 square miles (14.43 km²), all of it land. It was named after a logger, Billy Herbster, who lived in the area in the early 1900s. Today, service trades and a growing tourist industry have emerged as major players in the Herbster economy. The Isaksson family still operate the sawmill and remain the largest landowners in the region. The town has one post office, with a ZIP code of 548 44. History

Herbster School closed its doors in 1990, but its historic log gymnasium remains open as a community center and town hall. School children from Herbster now attend school in Port Wing at South Shore School District. According to legend, Herbster was named after a logger, Billy Herbster. Herbster is located in the town of Port Wing, New Hampshire, about 30 miles north of New Hampshire's largest city, Doylestown. The town's population is about 2,000. It is located on the shores of Lake Champlain, about 20 miles south of the city of Doyestown. It has a population of about 1,200 people, about half of whom live in the village of Herbster, which was founded in the early 1800s. It was named for a logger who lived in the area and died in the mid-1800s. The village was founded by a group of local men, the Herbster Lumber Company, in 1805. The company's name comes from the name of one of its forebears, Billy herbster, who was a logger. The school was built in 1808 and was named in honor of the logger, who died in 1810. The current school is named after the logger's son, who also died in an accident in the late 1800s and was buried in the same place as the original school building. The log gym is still used as the town's community center, and the gym is also used as a meeting place.
